THE MILITARY WELLNESS PROGRAM AT HOLLISWOOD HOSPITAL AND HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS®

FAMILY REINTEGRATION PROGRAM

No matter what the situation or how many directions they're being pulled in, our military families always stand ready to serve their loved ones, their communities and our country.  After 10 years of war, it's our turn to return their service and sacrifice with honor and appreciation of our own — and not just in word, but in deed.

-First Lady Michelle Obama

The Military Wellness Program at Holliswood Hospital and Hope for the Warriors® (a local and national not-for-profit agency dedicated to supporting wounded warriors and their families) have collaborated to develop the Family Reintegration Program.

The Family Reintegration Program aims to, first and foremost, support wounded warriors and their families by engaging the warrior and their spouse/significant others/caretakers in a therapeutic experience that promotes family communication, recovery, and resiliency.

For wounded warriors admitted to the Military Wellness Program at Holliswood Hospital for inpatient care, the Family Reintegration Program will transport their spouse/significant others/caretakers to New York free of charge for a four-day therapeutic workshop that will include the following elements:

- Focused education and skills training to better understand and manage posttraumatic stress disorder, mild TBI, and substance misuse issues.

- Conjoint/marital therapy with the warrior-in-treatment and the spouse/significant others, focusing on strengthening resiliency within the family and marital unit.

- Direct communication to the spouse/significant others about their warrior’s treatment, including expectations for recovery and ways to maximize treatment gains.

- Ongoing follow-up and support for the spouse/significant others/caretakers following the workshop and after their warrior has been discharged from the Military Wellness Program
Respite/self-care opportunities for the spouse/significant others/caretakers while lodging in New York, including access to spouse/family support groups, dinner and recreational activities in Manhattan, and spa services.

In addition, the Family Reintegration Program also provides ongoing education and support services for military families living locally in New York City and on Long Island.  Local military families have access, free-of-charge, to many of the educational, therapeutic, and respite/self-care activities offered within the Program.
